KYT KX-1 Race GP
MotoGP-grid-legal helmet spec for less than half the price of the Instagram helmet.
The Verdict
The Good
- FIM-homologated race spec at less than half the price of a Pista
- The best visor mechanism I've ever used, full metal, Fort Knox when locked
- Insane 210 degree horizontal field of view plus massive vertical range
The Bad
- Loud at highway speeds. Consider a Shoei X-15 if quiet matters more than pace
- Vent switches up top are fiddly with gloves on
- Cheek pads need a break-in period before the pressure point fades
- Clear visor
- Pinlock insert sold separately
- Dark visor sold separately
- Peak / visor sold separately
- Breath deflector sold separately
- Chin curtain sold separately
- Helmet bag sold separately

The Pista killer nobody's talking about
The KX-1 Race GP is the helmet the Pista wishes it could grow up to be. FIM approved, MotoGP-grid legal, $850 for the glossy carbon version. Less than half what an AGV Pista GP RR costs, and this thing out-performs it in the wind.
Put it on and the first thing you notice is the weight. 1,450 grams. Barely feels like it's there. Then you get moving and the second thing hits you: stability. Doesn't matter what bike or how fast, this helmet makes wind disappear. No buffeting, no head-bobble, no drag when you turn your head. It just cuts.
The visor mechanism is the real party trick. Full metal, and the side levers for swapping shields are the smoothest I've ever used on any helmet. 210-degree horizontal field of view sounds like a spec-sheet number until you put it on and realize you can see everything.
It's loud. Wear earplugs and move on.
Who should buy this
Track-day riders and sport-bike riders who want MotoGP-grid-legal spec without MotoGP-grid pricing. If you're doing long highway touring, compare against a Shoei X-15, it's quieter and plusher for daily miles. For everyone else chasing lightweight, aerodynamic, and properly certified, the KX-1 beats its rivals on price and matches them on performance.
